"Lady May (with a "y") refers to the tugboat that pushed barges of freshly picked oysters from where the lone oystermen gathered with their haul. She trudged the waters of the Lowcountry bringing those oysters to the oyster canneries owned by the Maggioni family. The glow of the painting represents the pot-bellied stoves onboard to keep the crew warm as they plied the waterways on cold nights and mornings."
